Spot the signs of worn shock absorbers

Worn shock absorbers lose their effectiveness after 80,000 kilometres (50,000 miles). If your vehicle dips at the front when you go into tight corners or if your notice that your vehicle bounces a lot when you brake hard, then you may need new shock absorbers. This can also mean tyres wearing in a place you may not see like on the inside, so check the condition of the tyres by turning the steering wheel. You may also find the tyre wear uneven, this may be caused by wheel alignment (tracking) or the shock absorbers.

We recommend KYB shock absorbers

At Buckingham Tyre and Exhaust we recommend KYB shock absorbers for your vehicle. Only KYB shock absorbers are calibrated to restore originally-designed ESC capabilities. One of the main requirements for shock absorbers is to keep the wheels on the ground at all times, to be able to transmit the steering and braking forces to the road while you are driving. Without this contact with the road, an accident could occur if your shock absorbers are defective.

Would you like us evaluate the condition of your shocks?

Worn shock absorbers increase the braking distance, 2-3 metres longer at speeds of 50 miles per hour. Your shock absorbers may already have done 80,000 kilometres without having being checked. We’ll be happy to assess the condition of your shocks and advise on repairs or replacements. If you’re in Bicester, Buckingham, Winslow, Brackley or anywhere around Buckinghamshire, pay us a visit at Buckingham Tyre and Exhaust.
